How preventive visits actually flow

A typical recall appointment runs about an hour. You check in, a hygienist seats you, and updates your health history. Blood pressure if it has been a while. New medications, recent surgeries, anything that has changed. Then x-rays on whatever interval makes sense for you, usually a small set once a year and a panoramic film less often. The cleaning itself is methodical: ultrasonic scaler, hand instrument detail work, polish, floss, fluoride if it has been recommended.

Your dentist then comes in, reviews the films, and performs the exam. Soft-tissue check, oral cancer screening, occlusion, tooth-by-tooth review. If there is anything to discuss, we discuss it before you stand up, not in a follow-up phone call three weeks later. You leave with a clear sense of where your mouth is and when we will see you next.
